Who we are
Motorkeep operates this website as a directory and enquiry service for UK car storage. For data submitted through the platform we are the data controller; contact hello@motorkeep.co.uk.
What we collect and why
Enquiries. When you send an enquiry we collect your name, email, optional phone number, details about your car and your message, together with the time of your consent. We use this to deliver your enquiry to the facility (or facilities) you chose and to email you a confirmation. Legal basis: consent, which you give via the tick-box on the form and can withdraw at any time.
Facility accounts. Operators signing in provide an email address (and profile details they choose to add). We use this to run their account, deliver leads and bill subscriptions (payment card data is handled by Stripe, not stored by us). Legal basis: contract.
Analytics. We log aggregate usage events (page views, enquiry submissions) tied to listings, not to identified visitors, and use privacy-friendly analytics (Plausible) which sets no cookies and stores no personal data.
Cookies
We set only strictly necessary cookies — one to remember your place in a quote, and sign-in cookies if you have an account. We run no advertising or tracking cookies. Full detail, including how long each lasts, is in our cookie policy.
Who receives your data
When you request quotes, we pass your details to up to three storage facilities matched on your location and what you asked for. We name them on the confirmation page and in your confirmation email, so you always know who has your details. Each one contacts you directly. We do this only after you tick the consent box, and you can withdraw consent at any time.
Those facilities are independent businesses and become data controllers in their own right for what they do with your enquiry. Their own privacy terms apply once they hold your details; if you want a facility to erase your data, contact them, and we will help if you ask us.
Our processors include Supabase (database and authentication), Vercel (hosting), Resend (email) and Stripe (payments). We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with data brokers or advertisers.
Facility contact details we did not get from you
If you run a car storage business, we may hold a contact email address for you that you did not give us directly. We collect these from publicly available sources — your own website, your public business listings — so that we can tell you your business is listed and invite you to claim and correct the listing.
What we hold: your business name, address, phone number, website and a contact email address. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)): running an accurate directory, and giving the business it describes the chance to correct or remove it. We think that is a fair use because the information is already public, it concerns you in a business capacity, and the first thing we do with it is offer you control.
You can object at any time. Reply to any email from us, use the unsubscribe link, or contact us — and we will stop emailing you. You can also ask us to correct the listing, remove your contact details from our records, or delist the business entirely, and we will do it. You have the same rights over this data as over any other personal data we hold, set out below.
Where your data is stored
Our database and hosting are configured to keep data in the UK or European Economic Area. Some processors are US-owned and may access data from outside the UK; where they do, transfers rely on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or equivalent safeguards under Article 46 UK GDPR.
How long we keep it
- Quotes and enquiries — 24 months from submission, then deleted or anonymised. This covers the storage decision itself and any follow-up dispute about an introduction.
- Abandoned quotes — 6 months, in case you return to finish one.
- Account data — while the account is active, then 6 months after closure.
- Billing records — 6 years, as UK tax law requires.
- Email delivery logs — 12 months, to investigate non-delivery.
You can ask us to delete your data sooner at any time.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of your data, and withdraw consent. Email hello@motorkeep.co.ukand we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle it you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
